Staff Patient Safety Fairs

Affecting an organization’s safety culture requires broad employee commitment. In response, the GAPS Center developed and produced the all-employee fairs to promote active discovery learning about patient safety. The Fair is composed of eight interactive booths which demonstrate safety concepts through simulation, video, audio, elicitation of ideas, and didactic methods. Booth design reflects critical safety concepts fundamental to organization and individual commitment to patient safety such as James Reason’s Swiss Cheese concept, tradeoffs and goal conflicts, redundancy, pressure to perform, lessons learned from NASA and aviation, all presented in an accessible, hands-on, entertaining format.
