Drawing of a road as seen through a windshield

The power went off last night in the storm.
The backup generator failed due to a computer glitch.
Your alarm clock has a backup battery.

It was dead.

You are now late for work.

You are scheduled to lead a 7AM meeting focusing on employee tardiness.
The car is covered in ice.
You scrape away just enough to see the road.

The radio traffic helicopter reports on an accident on your usual commute.
You take the back way.

The defroster isn’t working right. In fact, it makes things worse.
Should the A/C be on or off? You can never remember.|

It is really hard to see. This back route sure twists and turns a lot!
Still, you want to avoid that traffic delay.
You are all over the road. The four-wheel drive hasn’t kicked in yet.

Great. Now it’s starting to sleet. Your tires are old and don’t have good traction.
Of course the salt trucks haven’t gotten to this back route yet.

You call the babysitter to tell her you are running late.
Why are the numbers on the cell phone so little and hard to read?

Ouch! Your sipper lid popped off your cup and you spilled scalding coffee in your lap.

You strain to see the road.

Driving next to the construction orange barrels makes you nervous. You had forgotten about the construction this way.
You shouldn’t drive so fast but you’re late and the boss will notice.

Your antilock brakes pulsate as you suddenly brake for the deer in the middle of the road.
You swerve.
Crash.

What caused the crash?
